New MacBook Air

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has unveiled the new MacBook from Apple at the Macworld Expo. The MacBook Air is being touted as the thinnest notebook in the world. It actually fits inside a standard interoffice mailing envelope. Prices start at $1799.
The MacBook Air features a sleek silvery finish and sports a 13.3 inch LED backlit widescreen display with 1280 by 800 resolution. The LED backlighting reduces power consumption and provides “instant on” response.
The 12.8 inch wide by 8.95 inch deep weighs in at a barely noticeable 3 pounds and is about three quarters of an inch thick.
Under the hood you find an Intel Core 2 Duo chip running at 1.6 GHz or 1.8GHz. with 4 MB of L2 cache. Intel engineered a new version of the Core 2 to Apple’s specs, producing a 60% smaller version.
In a tip of the hat to the greens, Jobs noted that they case if fully recyclable aluminum, and is the first laptop to have a mercury free display, and arsenic free glass. Retail packaging uses 56% less material than standard MacBook packaging.
